9 Volt Battery

Most of the electrical devices that are small in nature at our homes such as radios, remote controls and smoke detectors make use of 9 volt battery for them to function as expected.  All batteries have their power reduce over certain period of time and a 9 volt battery is not exceptional.

Its power will at one time be totally consumed.  However, whenever one detects a stop operation of the 9 volt battery, one of the first things that one should do is to establish whether the 9 volt battery is still functioning.  The following are some of the guidelines that one can use in testing a 9 volt battery.

Among the things that are required in this operation are the voltmeter and the battery tester.  The first thing that one should do is to ensure that the 9 volt battery to be performed the test on is removed from the gadget it’s providing the power for.   What follows is taking a battery tester or a voltmeter and testing the battery.

A battery tester or a voltmeter that is less expensive can be used here.  It’s of great importance to follow instructions provided by the testing device.  The main reason behind this is to have a clear understanding of how one is supposed to ensure a good connection between the tester and the battery.

The next thing is to follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer to attach the tester to the battery.   The most important precaution is ensuring that positive terminal for the battery is attached together with the positive input the testing device has.  The good thing is that, the “+” sign or the word “positive” is normally indicated on the terminals.

Follow the same discussed procedure discussed above and attach the testing device negative input to the battery’s negative terminal. The terminals are also indicated negative in the terminals. The next part is to use the battery tester readout display meter.

The battery’s status is normally determined by use of this meter. One should have a look at the display provided by the testing device to come at a conclusion.  If the reading on the meter indicates a low voltage, the only option is to replace the battery.

The output of a 9 volt battery will slowly decrease to a point where powering a 9 volt device will become a problem.  In situations where the batteries output reaches a level that is 5.5 volts or even less, replacing the battery is the only left option before failure of the battery is realized.  Another method than one can use in testing of a 9 volt battery is by use of a tongue.

In this, the two terminals for the 9 volt battery can are touched by use of a tongue.  If a sensation that is considered strong and tingling is felt, the battery is still functioning.  Lack of the tingling sensation indicates exhaustion of the battery.

The above are some of the ways you can use to test the 9 volt battery.
